Demonstration 5: Structured Song

This was written in 1988.

I saw you once walking in the rain
Tears falling from your eyes
I wanted to hold you
But you just turned me away.
What am I to do?
You're so much far away
And though you're near
The walls just stretch on high

We can't pretend to be strong
If only to hold on.
The love that we feel
Is anything but real.
We can't live with a lie
We have to say goodbye
'Cause it's time to let go.

You don't want to know what I've been through
And even if you knew then
You can't turn back the clock
To make me whole again.
I can't live with the past
But to start my life again
Is just as useless
As living without you.

We can't pretend to be strong
If only to hold on.
The love that we feel
Is anything but real.
We can't live with a lie
We have to say goodbye
'Cause it's time to let go.

I said that I loved you
And you know that wouldn't change
Oh I wanted us to go on
And I tried my best to hold on
But you know it will never be the same...

We can be friends to each other
And loving like before.
We have to settle for less
So that we can have more.
Though this may be farewell
It might be just as well
'Cause it's time to let go...

We have to let go
'Cause it's time to let go.
